After much recent speculation, Suda 51 has finally released some details about his mysterious new project. The eccentric developer was interviewed for the latest issue of the respected Japanese games magazine Weekly Famitsu and revealed he’s working on an action title called Killer is Dead.
There had been some recent confusion in the gaming press over whether the game would be a sequel to the cult hits Killer 7 and No More Heroes, but Suda confirmed the game was not a sequel but would share some of the ‘assassin’ themes he’s worked with before, reports Andriasang.
The game will also be the second title released through a partnership with Suda’s own Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games following the upcoming release of Lollipop Chainsaw in June. Although details on game play are pretty vague at the moment, he did confirm it will include some of the sword play mechanics from games like No More Heroes.
Plot details are just as sketchy, but Suda did reveal players would play as ‘The Executioner’, an assassin sent to hunt down dangerous criminals. The article showed Suda was his usual animated self, describing the main character as a “dark side 007” and that not only would he be driven by “love” but would also fight his enemies in a number of locales, including “the moon”. Expect more crazy details to follow.
Killer is Dead is set for release on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2014.
